Dr. A Joins the UGA Teaching Academy

Dr. Carolina Acosta-Alzuru was inducted into the UGA Teaching Academy last night at the annual induction ceremony and dinner. Dr. Peggy Kreshel introduced Dr. A to the group and had the room in tears with her heartfelt comments.

As is tradition, Dr. A shared her teaching philosophy with the group:
"Respect and responsibility underpin my teaching philosphy and define my view of the teaching/learning process. I begin every class with high expectations for myself and for the students, who I never underestimate. My overarching goal is to encourage their sense of accomplishment so that, before the semester ends, their expectations of themselves will exceed my own. Through my enthusiasm for the course material and my belief in their abilities, I strive to show the students that the best source of motivation lies within them."

Other ADPR faculty who are members of the Teaching Academy include: Dr. Kreshel, Dr. Krugman, Dr. Sallot and Dr. King. Pictured above are Dr. A, Dr. King and Dr. Holifield.

UGA Number One in Advertising Research--AGAIN!

An article in the Fall issue of the Journal of Advertising names the University of Georgia number one in advertising research! The comparative institutional ranking is based on the number of articles published in Journal of Advertising, Journal ofAdvertising Research and Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising from 1997-2006. The number one ranking holds for both both total appearances and weighted appearances. In previous studies conducted in 1998 and 1990, the University of Georgia also ranked number one.
Three Grady faculty members are named among the most published. Dr. Len Reid (#4), Dr. Tom Reichert (#16) and Dr. Karen King (#24) all ranked among the top 25.

Just in from Dr. Lynne Sallot

"So, here I am, at PRSA International Conference in Detroit, attending the 'PR Research Showcase' session (conference program posted at www.prsa.org/conference08) a few hours ago. I join the roundtable presentation by Katie Delahaye Paine, CEO, KDPaine & Partners(www.measuresofsuccess.com), Berlin, NH, of her excellent paper, 'Are We Engaged Yet? A Proposed Framework for Merasuring Engagement in Social Networks." Spying "University of Georgia' on my nametag, Ms. Paine tells the group of practitioners and educators that "the Social Media stuff that Dr. Kaye Sweetser and Dr. Karen Russell are doing at UGA is knocking everyone's socks off!!!" WAY TO GO Karen & Kaye!!!
Our students are "doing Grady proud." I had so much fun ... wish y'all were here!"
Best, Lynne

ADPR 3100 Virtual Guest Speaker

Copywriter Kelly Markey was Skyped in the Intro Advertising course Thursday, October 9th. Kelly works at ND&P, a full-service agency in Richmond, VA. She talked to the students about being a writer; how to get a job in the biz, and what she does on a daily basis. Kelly also showed the class a few examples of her work. Virtual visits via Skype are a convenient way to connect our students to professionals and other scholars around the world. Kurt Thompson, a current Intro Advertising student, is Kelly’s brother. He claimed seeing big sis on the big screen didn’t embarrass him “too” much.
