ADPR Spellers Strut Their Stuff

The ADPR Spelling Bee Team of Lariscy, Reber and Smith dazzled the competition at the Athens Charity Spelling Bee today.

Fresh off the BlackBerry from Athens Tech...our roving reporter, Dr. A sends in this report.
"1st word: aardvark. They did perfect!!!"

"The team was eliminated in the 9th round leaving on stage only 2 teams." The ADPR team was "awesome. The word that got them was 'Khartoum' the capital of Sudan."
Signing off from Athens Tech, Dr. A

The team leader, Give-Me-That-Mulligan-NOw Dr. Lariscy said "We had a ball! The best thing, you know, is that we were the #2 team in fundraising---we collected $500 for the illiteracy battles in Athens Clarke County---they were really pleased and surprised that a 'first year team' would raise so much, and subsequently, do so well!"
Go Grady!

Guest Speaker in ADPR 5920

On Feb. 10, Paull Young from Converseon in New York City gave a virtual talk to Dr. Sweetser's Public Relations Communications (ADPR 5920) class about viral videos.

Via Skype, a video conference technology that ADPR faculty use to "bring in" guest speakers from the practice into their classrooms, Young shared best practices and case studies on how to make a video that is good enough to become viral.

Young told the class that you can't make a viral video, rather you can just make a video that may end up viral if it resonates with your publics. He also stressed that you shouldn't concentrate on the number of views a video gets because it can be considered a success (even with a low number of views) as long as the people in your target audience are the ones viewing it.

If you're interested in "sitting in" on Young's talk, watch this 10-minute
"Viral 101" clip from the lecture where Young breaks down the elements and best practices of viral video:

Additionally, Young walked the class through two video client case studies on Graco Baby and Second Life Trees in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkNfuqmhY1g
After the lecture, Young took questions from the students, making the experience more interactive.

Dean Cully Clark served as a guest coach for the Lady Dawgs basketball game on Thursday night, February 19, when Georgia took on the LSU Lady Tigers. Dean Clark, who is now referring to himself as "Coach C," was one of four deans “coaching” at the 7 p.m. game.
There was a good ADPR turnout with our very own Kinsey Russell leading the cheering section. The Rebers, Hamiltons, Russells and Kreshel were all there. Laura Hamilton caught a beenie dog and Kreshel found a new friend.
