PR major awarded Chick-fil-A Public Relations Scholarship

PR major Jasmine Johnson

PR major Jasmine Johnson has been awarded the $5,000 Don A. Perry Memorial Chick-fil-A Public Relations Scholarship. She heads the Diversity Committee for UGA's PRSSA and serves on the PRSSA National Conference Host team. She's also a member of BPRS (Black Public Relations Society) in Atlanta, and currently works with special events for the UGA Football Recruiting Office.

The scholarship is presented by BPRS in honor of Perry, who was vice president of corporate public relations at Chick-fil-A until his passing in 2012. He graduated from Grady College in 1974. The scholarship was created in 2013 in hopes of encouraging and increasing the number of minorities in the public relations field. The scholarship is intended for one student attending an accredited institution in Georgia and who has intentions of becoming a "positive influencer within the public relations arena."

Students were asked to write a short essay as part of the application process. Johnson addressed the question of her education and how it has prepared her for the future workforce, specifically focusing on her internship at Turner.

“For a young person graduating with this type of degree, there is nothing like on-the-job experience to truly make your education a unique experience that will place you in an advantageous position upon graduation,” Johnson said in her winning essay.
