Dr. Jones Honored as UGA "Advisor of the Year"

Dr. Betty Jones, a senior lecturer in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations, was recently honored as the UGA SOAR award advisor of the year for her work with the University’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). The award, which is facilitated by the University’s Center for Student Organizations, recognizes a student organization advisor “who has gone above and beyond the basic expectations of an advisor.” The award was named in honor of University alumni H. Gordon and Francis S. Davis.

“Betty is a terrific advisor to PRSSA,” said Dr. Tom Reichert, a professor and department head of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations. “She takes care of the members and makes sure they learn a tremendous amount about public relations.”

It was a great honor to receive an award for something I love doing,” said Dr. Jones. “I've been the PRSSA faculty advisor for more than 10 years, and it's been my privilege to help our students launch their careers.”

In addition to her duties as a PRSSA advisor, Jones teaches graphic communication, PR communication and oversees the advertising/public relations graphic laboratory.
