Students receive scholarships for participation in Moxie-Zenith / UGA Partnership Program

Sierra Romeo, Srishti Mishra, Hawk Young and Daniella Grinzaid worked together on the Moxie-Zenith / UGA Partnership Program
The University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication AdPR department awarded scholarships to four students for participating in the Moxie-Zenith / UGA Partnership Program.

The awarded students, Danielle Grinzaid, Srishti Mishra, Sierra Romeo and Hawk Young, applied and were carefully selected to participate in the UGA program for Publicis Media Groupe, a group of agencies dedicated to being leaders in global marketing, communication and business transformation.

After the selection process, the four chosen students prepared a presentation about the major impacts or themes they noticed throughout the program. Guy Abrahams, global strategic planning director at Zenith, and Claudine Cheever, executive vice president and head of strategy at Mediavest/Spark, provided input about themes during the student presentations.

The students continued the program by presenting their observations at Moxie in Atlanta. Based on the program feedback, the students’ performance impressed the Atlanta agencies. As a result, the students received a scholarship for their participation.

“I am very grateful to be one of the very few selected by Dr. Reichert and Dr. King for this opportunity. The people over at Moxie were more than welcoming and I thought it was really cool that we got a glimpse into their professional environment because it gave me a good sense of what it is like to work for a marketing agency in Atlanta” said Srishti Mishra, UGA student.

The program proved to be very effective, and Grady College looks forward to continued success in the future. For more information about student scholarship programs, visit the Grady College website.

Four AdPR students intern at Moxie as part of new learning alliance

Four AdPR students interned at Moxie during summer 2014 as part of a new learning alliance with UGA's Department of Advertising and Public Relations. Two internships are guaranteed for AdPR students but four were selected for this very competitive opportunity.

The students included: (pictured left to right: Nikita Desai (not pictured), Jamie Herndon, Ellie Reed and Rachel Smudde. All students were graduating seniors except Smudde -- she is a second-year MA student. The students interned in different departments. Smudde interned with the analytics group.

The internships began in May and ended in August. The paid internships gave students real-world experience at one of the leading agencies in the southeast. The department is very pleased to partner with Moxie to graduate tomorrow's digital leaders.

Over 40 students attend Cannes Lions through UGA study abroad

Students with Conan O'Brien
June 2013 marks the fourth consecutive year of the University of Georgia Cannes Lions study abroad program. This year 41 students mixed with over 12,000 delegates from over 92 countries.

This was a special year with the festival celebrating its 60th anniversary. Major themes of the festival included storytelling, mobile and social media, authenticity and transparency. Students attended sessions during the seven-day festival that included over 60 seminars, and a range of master classes, forums, and tech talks.

Exclusive Guest Speakers
This year’s special guests included a star-studded set of exclusive speakers who shared their insights with the students. They included:

  • Conan O’Brien, TBS talk show host
  • Ellen Mardiks, Golin Harris
  • Suzy Deering, Moxie Interactive
  • Jack Klues, Vivaki
  • David Gallagher, Ketchum Europe
  • Kerry Gaffney, MOFILM
  • Katherine Ryan, Canadian comedienne/actor

For the fourth year students attended a VIP tour of Microsoft Advertising’s Experience Center, a showcase of the company’s latest consumer technology.

Students talk with Ellen Mardiks
Students in the program mixed and mingled with some of the leaders in the brand, media and agency business. At least four students were offered internships or positions while attending the festival.

Highlights
Other highlights included yacht parties, an event with P. Diddy, scuba excursions, and day trips to Nice, Antibes, Eze and Monaco. Two student groups won "Canned" lions for their campaigns developed during the program.

Professors Karen King and Bryan Reber also participated in this year’s program. They taught sessions about the advertising and public relations professions, and helped preview the festival for students. UGA Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies Dr. Jeff Springston also was on hand for a guest lecture.

Cannes Lions Study Abroad Program
Although most of the students enrolled in the program were from UGA, this year students from University of Arkansas, Colgate and American University also were enrolled. Students earn six hours of academic credit during the three-week program.

On the infamous red carpet at Cannes
The program is co-directed by Drs. Tom Reichert and Nate Kohn, professors in UGA’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Students interested in next year’s program are encouraged to visit the website for more information about the application process.
