Fall lineup for UGA Grady's AdPR Lecture Series

The following speakers are scheduled to talk at this semester's AdPR Lecture Series, which is currently held Thursday nights in MLC 148 at 6:00 p.m.:

Sept. 27: Jason Rockman from Engauge (Atlanta). 

Oct. 11: Mike Martin and Ron Huey - creative directors who will speak on sports marketing.

Oct. 18: Matt Browher from Digitas (previously SVP of           Digital at Fleishman-Hilliard).

Nov. 1: 
 — Diane Brodalski, Senior Social Media Strategist at the Centers for Disease Control - will speak on social media's growing influence on health communications.
 — Michael Ares, Senior Vice President at Fleishman-Hilliard - will speak on building corporate reputation management.

Nov. 8: Tricia Melton, SVP, Entertainment Marketing, Turner Broadcasting and Hilary Silverboard, VP Branding, TNT.

Dates and speakers are subject to change. The AdPR Lecture Series is course taught by Dr. Karen W. King, the Jim Kennedy New Media Professor in Advertising. "Students consistently say this course is extremely helpful because it shows them what is current in the advertising and public relations professions," said AdPR Department Head Tom Reichert. "We see this course as another way to prepare our students to be successful."

Media Storm experts to speak at AdPR Lecture Series


You are invited to attend the AdPR Lecture Series today as Media Storm’s Inga Kalinichenko-Cenatiempo, Associate Director of Strategic Planning, and Sarah Zagorski, Planning Coordinator, will speak at 6:00pm on “Creativity in Media Planning: The Art and the Science.” Kalinichenko-Cenatiempo and Zagorski are both Grady graduates. The Lecture Series will be held in MLC Room 148.
Media Storm is a strategic media and marketing agency with roots in entertainment.

PHD Worldwide to Renew Grady Scholars Program for Second Year



PHD Worldwide, a global media and communications agency, is renewing its PHD Media-Grady program for a second year. PHD plans to select five Grady ADPR students to work on a six-month consumer insights project, and graduating seniors are encouraged to apply. Dr. Karen King, Jim Kennedy Professor of New Media in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations, made the announcement about the application process during Thursday's AdPR Lecture Series, which featured Sal Candela, PHD Worldwide's mobile media manager. 

If selected, students will work together on a six-month media project for PHD exploring consumer insights with Dr. King as the Grady supervisor. Participants will be flown to New York City to share their findings with PHD and some of its clients.

Last year's participants explored Millennial consumer behavior and reported their findings to PHD in May 2012. These students have all started their careers in media at places such as Media Storm, Yelp, Turner, ID Media and PHD at offices in Chicago, New York and Arizona and Atlanta.

Grady AdPR graduating seniors interested in media are encouraged to apply by turning in a resume and answers to the following questions to Sophie Barnes in Journalism room 233 by Wednesday, September 12 at 4:00pm.

1. What aspect of media and reaching consumers interests you the most?
2. What NMI classes have you taken?
3. What internships and related experience do you have?
4. How open to working in NYC or Chicago are you after graduation?

Sal Candela, Mobile Media Director at PHD/NY to Speak

Mobile media expert, Sal Candela, Mobile Media Director at PHD Worldwide in New York, will speak at the ADPR Lecture Series on Thursday, August 30th at 6:00 p.m. Mr. Candela will be joining us via Skype to discuss "The Era of Mobility." The presentation will be in 148 of the Miller Learning Center.

PHD Worldwide is a global media agency that is part of the Omnicom Group.

Moxie President Suzy Deering to speak at Ad Lecture Series


Suzy Deering
Suzy Deering, president of interactive communications agency Moxie, will kickoff this semester’s Ad Lecture Series as its first speaker in a presentation titled “The State of Digital.” Her talk will be held this Thursday, August 23, at 5:55 pm in room 148 of the Miller Learning Center.

Deering was tapped in 2012, to be president of Moxie--a full-service digital interactive marketing agency headquartered in Atlanta. Prior to that, she was the vice president of integrated media at The Home Depot; and has held leadership positions in media, engagement, brands and marketing at Verizon Wireless, Verizon Communications Incorporated and Fitzgerald+. Deering was chosen as a “40 under 40” industry leader by AdvertisingAge.

The Ad Lecture Series will be held Thursday evenings this fall, and presentations will include advertising and public relations professionals and researchers.
